      Brewers cut seven from major-league camp Friday

      The Brewers optioned first baseman Sean Halton and pitchers Mike Fiers and Hiram Burgos to Triple-A Nashville after Friday's 9-8 win over the Diamondbacks. The team also re-assigned catcher Matt Pagnozzi, infielder Eugenio Velez, outfielder Kevin Mattison and pitcher Dustin Molleken to minor-league camp.

      Brewers add a couple minor leaguers in Rule 5

      The Brewers selected third baseman Vinnie Catricala from the Athletics organization and outfielder Kevin Mattison from the Marlins organization in the minor-league portion of the Rule 5 draft Thursday. Catricala, 25, hit only .235 with seven homers and a .621 OPS between Double- and Triple-A last year but was considered a legitimate prospect in the Mariners organization in 2011, when he hit .349 with 25 homers and a 1.021 OPS between high Class A and Dobule-A. Mattison, 28, hit .216 with seven homers, 18 steals and a .662 OPS at Triple-A last year. Both are expected to play for Triple-A Nashville.

      Marlins make first wave of cuts

      The Marlins began trimming their roster for the first time this spring and shuffled 11 players Friday. Relief pitcher Scott Maine was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, while relief pitcher Arquimedes Caminero and third baseman Zack Cox were optioned to Double-A Jacksonville. Pitchers Michael Brady, Adam Conley, Brian Flynn, Raudel Lazo, shortstop Danny Black, third baseman Derek Dietrich and outfielder Kevin Mattison were all reassigned to Miami's minor-league camp.
