Indians hold Lonnie Chisenhall out of Saturday lineup vs. Red Sox

Indians right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall is not in the lineup against the Red Sox on Saturday. Chisenhall had been dealing with a sore hamstring earlier in the week, so it's no surprise to see him out of the lineup Saturday. With the 26-year-old out, Jerry Sands will get the start in right field and hit ninth in the order.

Indians OF Jerry Sands gets two hits, HR in win Friday

Indians outfielder Jerry Sands was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in Cleveland's win over Boston on Friday night. He was once considered a decent power prospect, but his days as a prospect are in the rearview mirror. Sands has four home runs to go with a pedestrian .233 average and his ability to play first base and either corner outfield spot provides some value as a utility man for the Indians, but he typically doesn't get enough playing time to have an impact in any but AL-only fantasy leagues.

Hamstring issue has Indians OF Lonnie Chisenhall out of opener

Indians right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall (hamstring) will not start the opener of the Wednesday doubleheader against visiting Minnesota. Chisenhall was a late scratch Monday after returning from the hamstring issue Sunday, and even the day off Tuesday wasn't enough for him to rejoin the lineup. Jerry Sands will replace him in right field, batting seventh for Cleveland.

Jerry Sands hits pinch hit grand slam for Indians

Indians right fielder Jerry Sands hit a pinch-hit grand slam in Saturday's win over Minnesota. Sands hit his second career slam and first since May 24, 2011. It was also his second pinch hit homer and first since June 16 of last year. Sands became the first Indians batter to hit a pinch hit grand slam since Travis Hafner on July 1, 2006. Sands remained in the game after pinch hitting, and in his second at bat, he struck out against position player Shane Robinson, who retired him with a knuckleball.

Indians RF Jerry Sands blasts first home run of the year

Indians right fielder Jerry Sands went 1 for 1 at the plate in Cleveland's 4-3 win over the Mariners on Saturday. Sands, whose last appearance with the team came in late April, did his damage in the second inning when he connected for a two-run shot off of Roenis Elias, his first of the season. "That's the second time now [this year] he's made like an immediate impact," manager Terry Francona said, per "That's a big, strong kid. … That's what we had him here this weekend for, was to try to help us win a game. And he sure did." Sands, who also walked once, is now hitting .375 with six RBI in 24 at-bats this year.
