Orioles promote Matthew Hobgood to high Class A
The Orioles have promoted former first-round pick Matthew Hobgood to high Class A Frederick. Hobgood was a first-round pick in 2009, but his progress was halted by rotator cuff surgery in 2012. Through 63 innings at Class A, Hobgood has a 3.71 ERA. He's pitched mainly out of the bullpen after being drafted as a starter.

Matt Hobgood shifting to bullpen
Beset by a shoulder injury that scrapped his entire 2012 campaign, Orioles pitching prospect Matthew Hobgood will work in a relief role this season, MASNSports.com reports. Hobgood, a former first-round draft pick, will likely begin his new journey at Class A Delmarva. The team is hoping the move to the bullpen will help the 22-year-old quickly regain some of the velocity he lost after having shoulder surgery.
