Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: Agrees to deal with A's

Alvarez agreed to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the A's on Friday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. He can earn an additional $1.6 million if he hits his incentives for games started. It's a one-year deal but the A's can control Alvarez, who was non-tendered by the Marlins, through 2017 if they are willing to go to arbitration with him next winter. Shoulder troubles plagued the right-hander's final season with Miami, limiting him to just 22.1 innings with the big club, and surgery was ultimately deemed necessary to repair a torn right labrum. His rehab is expected to push into the first month of the regular season, but Alvarez should slot into the rotation immediately once healthy.

      Henderson Alvarez: Non-tendered by Marlins

The Marlins declined to tender Alvarez (shoulder) a contract for 2016, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports. This is a bit surprising considering the Marlins' lack of quality starting pitching, but Alvarez battled shoulder issues throughout 2015, and ultimately needed surgery to repair a torn right labrum in late July. He was expected to resume throwing around Dec. 1, but the right-hander appears doubtful for Opening Day, and apparently the Marlins decided the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Marlins' Henderson Alvarez: Will resume throwing Dec. 1

Alvarez (shoulder) will resume throwing Dec. 1, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports. Alvarez has made good progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a torn labrum, and he is nearly ready to resume throwing. It remains unlikely that Alvarez will be ready for Opening Day, but barring any setbacks, he is on track to pitch in games at some point in April.
