The Kansas City Royals acquired catcher Lucas May and right-handed pitcher Elisaul Pimentel from the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder Scott Podsednik on Wednesday night. May will be assigned to Triple-A Omaha while Pimentel will report to low Class A Burlington. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Pimentel was signed by Los Angeles as a non-drafted free agent Dec. 12, 2006.
Pimentel, who turned 22 July 10, is currently 9-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 17 appearances, including 16 starts, for Great Lakes in the Class A Midwest League. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-hander has allowed just 71 hits in 90 1/3 innings, walking 35 and striking out 97. He was named Topps Midwest League Player of the Month for June, going 4-0 with a 0.39 ERA. There is a legit long-term pitching prospect, but he needs to progress to the higher levels of the minors before he can really be rated as a Fantasy keeper prospect.
