Hernandez suffered a dislocated thumb during Sunday's game against the Nationals, and will not return this year. Hernandez enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2015, earning regular playing time for the first time in his career. He played in 127 games, seeing time at second base, third base and shortstop. He hit .272 and stole a career-high 19 bases in 24 attempts. Hernandez does have ligament damage and will undergo surgery. He is expected to be fully recovered in time for spring training.

      Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez left Sunday's game against the Cubs with a thumb injury. Hernandez went 1 for 4 before he was replaced in the seventh inning. Hernandez was diagnosed with a dislocated left thumb, which he suffered during a play in the top of the seventh. After booting a ground ball, Hernandez attempted to make a play at first base, but wound up colliding with Anthony Rizzo. Hernandez will see a hand specialst on Monday, but it does not seem likely he will return this season.
