    Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that pitcher Arquimedes Caminero has "opened eyes" in camp, MLB.com reports. "He's opened eyes," Hurdle said. "The velocity gets your attention, but he needs to throw strikes. He's one of the guys who's come in and shown plus-velocity and thrown strikes -- and that'll get anybody's attention." Caminero tossed a scoreless inning Thursday for the fourth time this spring, and he's allowed just two hits and one walk in his four innings of work while striking out seven batters.

    The Pirates' newly-acquired reliever, Arquimedes Caminero, is a 6-4, 250-pounder who can hit 100 mph on the radar gun, reports MLB.com. He was placed on the team's 40-man roster without remaining minor-league options, and has an "inside track" for a setup role at the major-league level, the report said. The 27-year-old Caminero struck out 79 in 63 innings last season for Triple-A New Orleans. Pittsburgh acquired him Wednesday from the Marlins.
