Royals RP Patrick Keating and a host of pitchers arrived to camp a week early to put in extra work before Spring Training opened up. "Keating has surprised the heck out of me," pitching coach Bob McClure told the Kansas City Star. "His control is good. He throws hard, and his control is good..."
Keating was selected in the 2009 draft by the Royals, and he's played in all three minor league affiliates for the team. He's pitched well, combining for a 2.08 ERA in the two seasons split between Idaho Falls, Wilmington, and Northwest Arkansas. Keating has the chance to make the 40-man roster as nothing more than a middle reliever heading into the 2011 season, though it's a long shot against some stiff competition. If he does, however, consider Keating a marginal Fantasy option in AL-only formats.
