      Rangers pitcher Anthony Bass was the lone bright spot of Texas' pitching staff Sunday, going 3 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in the 11-10 loss to the Mariners. Bass allowed four hits and lowered his ERA to 3.14 in the outing, drawing the attention of manager Jeff Banister, according to "Bass is throwing the ball really well," manager Jeff Banister said. "I can't say enough about what he has done. It's a role he fits into and is comfortable with. We'll evaluate every situation and see how he continues to pitch out of the bullpen."

Bass signed a minor-league deal with the club during the offseason and was being considered for the starting rotation. Although he will travel with the team for their Opening Day game, Bass is not on the roster. He posted a 5.06 ERA with seven strikeouts in six appearances this spring.

      Report: Rangers decide on starting rotation to begin season

      The Rangers reportedly believe they have their starting rotation set for the beginning of the season, reports the Dallas Morning News. The rotation will go Yovani Gallardo, Colby Lewis, Ross Detwiler, Nick Martinez, and Derek Holland. Detwiler and Martinez will have beat out Nick Tepesch, Ross Ohlendorf, Anthony Ranaudo, Lisalverto Bonilla and Anthony Bass for two open spots in the starting rotation this spring. Martinez posted a 4.20 ERA in four appearances this spring with 11 strikeouts. Detwiler posted a 4.15 ERA with eight strikeouts in three appearances this spring.
