Diamondbacks' Jean Segura: Traded to the Diamondbacks

Segura was traded to the Diamondbacks on Saturday in a five-player deal, ESPN's Keith Law reports. The move makes sense for Arizona, as they have already made it clear that they are going all in on winning in the short term, and Nick Ahmed was slotted to be their starting shortstop, despite having a career .269 OBP. Segura won't be winning the silver slugger award anytime soon, but he is capable offensively, and is a quality defender at shortstop. This boosts Segura's fantasy value slightly, as he will be hitting in a better lineup. Look for him to steal 20-plus bases for the fourth year in a row, and hit toward the bottom of Arizona's lineup.

Brewers' Jean Segura: Agrees to deal to avoid arbitration

Segura agreed to a one-year contract with the Brewers on Friday, avoiding arbitration. The surface numbers from 2015 look remarkably similar to those from 2014, but Segura's strikeout and walk rates both represented career-worst marks, with his walk rate falling to a paltry 2.2%. He did reach 20 steals for a third straight season, and he should have the starting role to himself if the Brewers hold onto him, but he's shown little over the past couple years to lend hope to a repeat of his 2013 season at any point in the future.

Brewers SS Jean Segura hits three-run blast against Cardinals

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura went 1 for 4 with a three-run homer against the Cardinals on Thursday. He's picked up extra-base knocks in three of the last four games, but that doesn't add a lot of shine to what's been another bad season for Segura. It was hoped that last year was an anomaly because of personal and injury issues, plus something of a sophomore slump, but this season may be proving that 2013 was in fact the outlier, as Segura has achieved only mild improvements in his statistics.

Brewers willing to trade Carlos Gomez, Jean Segura

The Brewers are willing to trade center fielder Carlos Gomez and shortstop Jean Segura, a one person familiar with their thinking told CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The source added it is somewhat likely they move both players. The source said there is no way the Brewers will be able to keep Gomez long-term considering Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury's $153-million deal. Gomez will be a free agent after the 2016 season. As for Segura, the source suspected he could be traded due to the rise of shortstop prospect Orlando Arcia. In fact, Arcia might be drawing more trade interest than Segura, per Heyman. "He's the best player I saw in the minor leagues this year," one NL executive said of Arcia.

Brewers SS Jean Segura gets three more knocks on Friday

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura went 3 for 4 and scored a run in the 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Friday. All three hits went for singles, and he was also caught stealing for the third time this year. This was the fourth three-hit performance this month for Segura, who is batting a robust .469 (15 for 32) in eight games so far in July. Interestingly, none of the 15 hits Segura has collected this month have gone for extra bases.
