Reds' Billy Hamilton: On the right track in recovery

Hamilton, who is hitting, throwing and lifting weights, expects to be at 100 percent by the start of spring training, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports. Hamilton underwent shoulder surgery in late-September, and after 4-to-6 weeks of rest and recovery, he was finally cleared to resume hitting in early-December. The speedy outfielder admits he is not yet at full health, but certainly expects to be at that level during spring training. It will be a trying camp for the 25-year-old, who will look to put together some quality spring at-bats in an effort to regain his spot atop the batting order.

Surgery to sideline Reds OF Billy Hamilton for 4-6 weeks

Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton had shoulder surgery Tuesday, after which the Reds suggested he would be out 4-6 weeks before resuming baseball activities. The Reds also revealed that Hamilton will continue to bat from both sides of the plate, and will spend much of the offseason working with a hitting coach on his approach from the left side. "We've actually had more conversation about having him remain hitting from the left side because of the historical perspective of guys who started [switch-hitting] that late in life and what it took for them to kind of get over the hump and become proficient," Bryan Price said. "Some of the more outstanding players, they stuck with it and were able to master it. I don't think anyone here is ready to turn the page on that idea."
