Dodgers' Elian Herrera: Signs minor league contract with Dodgers

Herrera signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers that includes an invite to spring training, the Los Angeles Daily News' J.P. Hoornstra reports. He originally signed with the Dodgers back in 2003 when he left the Dominican Republic, so it is a homecoming of sorts for Herrera. The 30-year-old spent the last two years playing for the Brewers, but it will be a lot tougher for him to find playing time with the big league club in Los Angeles.

      Elian Herrera: Non-tendered by Brewers

Herrera was not tendered a contract by the Brewers. Aramis Ramirez's departure opened up regular playing time for Herrera in the second half, but the 30-year-old underwhelmed for the most part before a knee injury ended his season in mid-September. Look for him to at least attend spring training with another club, assuming the knee is back close to 100 percent by then.

Brewers 3B Elian Herrera remains sidelined Wednesday

Brewers third baseman Elian Herrera (knee) is not in the lineup Wednesday. Neither Herrera nor Shane Peterson has found themselves back in the lineup after colliding with one another during a game this weekend. It's fair to question if either player will return this season, however, more news regarding both players' injuries should be available later in the week.

Brewers' Elian Herrera, Shane Peterson leave game after collision

Brewers infielder Elian Herrera was taken off the field in an ambulance cart after colliding with outfielder Shane Peterson in Saturday's game against the Reds, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Peterson's knee crashed into Herrera as the two players were attempting to run down a bloop fly ball near the foul line, prompting both players to leave the game due to injury. Herrera was transported on a back board and taken to an ambulance cart. Hernan Perez replaced Herrera at third base. More information should be available after the game. Herrera's X-rays on his injured knee came back negative, Haudricourt adds. Early reports suggest he may have suffered a deep knee contusion, however further testing will probably provide a more conclusive result. Peterson is suffering from a bruised knee and has at least one laceration on his arm stemming from the collision with Herrera.

Brewers recall Logan Schafer, Elian Herrera from Triple-A

The Brewers have recalled outfielder Logan Schafer and infielder/outfielder Elian Herrera from Triple-A on Thursday. Schaefer, who made the Brewers out of spring training, has not appeared in a game for the big club since being sent down in early May. He was 6 for 33 prior to his demotion. Herrera has had 99 at-bats with the Brewers this year. He had a productive stretch in mid-May, when he homered in three consecutive games. Overall, he's batting .212 with four longballs. He has been down in the minors since early June. The moves come hours after the Brewers traded away Carlos Gomez to the Astros earlier in the day.

To clear room for Perez, the Brewers have designated infielder/outfielder Elian Herrera for assignment. Herrera is hitting .212 (21 for 99) with four home runs this year.
