      Marlins outright Alfredo Silverio

      The Marlins outrighted outfielder Alfredo Silverio to Triple-A New Orleans, removing him from the 60-day disabled list. Silverio missed all of the 2013 season, as he underwent his second Tommy John surgery in June.

      Alfredo Silverio has second Tommy John procedure

      Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest told the Miami Herald that outfielder Alfredo Silverio underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time in 14 months Wednesday, ending his season. Silverio was the Marlins' Rule 5 draft pick this season, but he has yet to play due to elbow woes. Beinfest could not say whether the Marlins were planning to return Silverio to the Dodgers, but he is unlikely to play until at least next season.

      The Marlins moved outfielder Alfredo Silverio (back, neck) to the 60-day disabled list Sunday as he continues his recovery from a series of ailments, including a sprained elbow that surfaced during the early part of spring training. There is no clear timetable for his return to game action.

      Silverio could land on DL

      According to the Palm Beach Post, Marlins' outfielder Alfredo Silverio seems likely to begin he season on the disabled list. Silverio continues to recover from the effects of a car accident more than a year ago, and has come down with a sprained elbow in recent days. Silverio was long tossing when he suffered the injury, in the same elbow he had Tommy John surgery in. "He will be out for a while. He felt something long tossing so we shut him down," manager Mike Redmond said.

      Silverio limited to DH role

      The Sun-Sentinel reports Marlins outfielder Alfredo Silverio served as the team's DH again Wednesday. Silverio, who missed last season because of neck, back and elbow injuries resulting from a car crash, isn't ready to play the field, however. "We're still getting him his at-bats," manager Mike Redmond said. "I know he threw the other day from 150 feet. I know he's progressing, but I don't want to speculate on what day he's going to be ready. If he keeps progressing the way he's doing, hopefully it'll be within the next couple of weeks."

      Silverio likely to open on DL reports Marlins outfielder Alfredo Silverio, who is a Rule 5 pick from the Dodgers, will not be medically cleared at the outset of spring training and will likely begin the season on the disabled list. Silverio missed last season after sustaining neck and back injuries in an automobile accident. He also needed Tommy John surgery.
