      Reds claim Donn Roach off waivers, DFA Donovan Hand

      The Reds claimed pitcher Donn Roach off waivers on Tuesday, per SB Nation. Roach was 0-1, 10.80 with the Cubs when the team designated him for assignment earlier in the month. To make room for Roach, the Reds designated pitcher Donovan Hand for assignment. Hand pitched three scoreless innings in his only appearance for the Reds.

      The Reds optioned pitcher Donovan Hand to Triple-A Louisville on Friday to clear a roster spot for left fielder Marlon Byrd, who was activated off the disabled list.       Reds recall pitchers Contreras, Hand; option OF Boesch to Triple-A

      The Reds have recalled pitchers Carlos Contreras and Donovan Hand from Triple-A Louisville, and optioned outfielder Brennan Boesch to Triple-A, the team announced on Tuesday. Contreras appeared in three games with the Reds earlier this season, allowing one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. With Triple-A, he owns a 4.66 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. Hand hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since 2013. He has been pitching in Triple-A after signing a minor-league deal with the Reds in January. In 15 games, he owns a 4.50 ERA over 44 innings pitched. Boesch has struggled this season in a part-time role with the Reds. In 56 at-bats, he's batting just .125 with one extra-base hit.

      Donovan Hand signs minor-league deal with Reds

      Former Brewers pitcher Donovan Hand signed a minor-league deal with the Cincinnati Reds, reports Baseball America. Hand has not pitched in the majors since 2013. He went 4-8 with a 5.20 ERA over 79 2/3 innings pitched for Triple-A Nashville.
