Astros OF Jake Marisnick: Doubles among two hits during Game 1 ALDS win

With Carlos Gomez out of the starting lineup Thursday due to a lingering back injury, Jake Marisnick drew the start in center field and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Astros' 5-2 win over Kansas City in Game 1 of the ALDS. Marisnick also made a fantastic catch in the fourth inning to quiet the crowd at Kauffman Stadium and stem a Royals rally. The 24-year-old, who is quietly considered the best defender among Houston's outfielders, would slide back to the bench if Carlos Gomez is healthy enough to play Friday.

Astros CF Carlos Gomez remains out with intercoastal strain

Astros center fielder Carlos Gomez (intercostal strain) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers. A late scratch from Sunday's lineup, Gomez was sent back to Houston for a follow-up on what was initially deemed an intercostal strain. Apparently, nothing more serious was found, as Gomez has rejoined the team and hopes to resume some baseball activity Wednesday. That said, he's never had this type of injury and is uncertain as to a possible timetable for his return. Jake Marisnick starts in center field Tuesday.

Astros OF Jake Marisnick sent to 15-day disabled list on Friday

The Astros have placed outfielder Jake Marisnick on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, the team announced on Friday. Marisnick was forced to leave Thursday's game in the eighth inning, and apparently the injury was severe enough to warrant a trip to the DL. "It was pretty sore last night and I got up this morning and it was still kind of bothering me," Marisnick said, per MLB.com. "It's something it's better to get taken care of than to go out and set back it back even farther." Colby Rasmus was activated from the Bereavement List to take the spot on the 25-man roster.
