    The Mets have officially designated outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Nieuwenhuis struggled as the team's fourth outfielder, collecting just three hits in 38 at-bats this season. In a corresponding move, the team has officially promoted fellow outfielder Darrell Ceciliani . Ceciliani was the team's fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. In 37 games at Triple-A this season, he was batting .336 with five home runs, 17 RBI and six stolen bases.
