Cubs SP Donn Roach clobbered by Cardinals in 2015 debut

Cubs right-hander Donn Roach flirted with danger in the first inning of his first start of the season Saturday in St. Louis. He succumbed to it in the fourth and never survived. Roach began the game by loading the bases, then inducing Yadier Molina to hit into a double play. He was fine in the second and third, but then came the epic collapse. He allowed four singles and a double before his merciful removal. The two runs that scored on a Matt Carpenter single after he left were charged to him. The bottom line was four runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings with one walk and one strikeout. Roach begins his 2015 season with a 10.80 ERA and is likely wishing he had not been forced to make his debut against the best team in baseball in its home park.
