Giants' Jarrett Parker: Struggles early at the plate

Parker has posted a .158 batting average in his first 15 games (57 at-bats) of the season with Triple-A Sacramento. In 21 games with San Francisco last season, Parker played some of the best baseball of his career as he had an uncharacteristically high batting average of .347 and hit six home runs. However, he has regressed to a much lower level of play in Triple-A Sacramento this season. Not only is his batting average an alarmingly low .158, Parker has struggled to make contact with the ball as he's striking out in 49 percent of his at-bats. Because of San Francisco's strong outfield cast, they won't be in a rush to bring him up from Triple-A in the near future, so Parker will have time to recover from his disappointing start.

Giants' Jarrett Parker: Optioned to Triple-A Sacramento

Giants' Jarrett Parker: Making push for roster spot

Parker is 8-for-34 (.235) with two homers and six RBI through 11 Cactus League games as he competes with Mac Williamson for one of the final spots on the Giants' 25-man roster. Both outfielders could begin the season at Triple-A, depending on the health of the three starters and veteran backup Gregor Blanco come Opening Day. Williamson has been the more productive of the two outfielders this spring, but Parker is already 27 years old, which may ultimately leave the front office more comfortable with him in a part-time role as it may be prudent to give Williamson everyday playing time in the minors.

Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker homers in Wednesday's loss

Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker came off the bench to hit a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. While the Giants' bullpen would eventually squander the lead, the home run was Parker's second of the season - with each long ball coming off the bench. Parker isn't exactly a prospect at 26-years-old, but had an excellent season at Triple-A Sacramento and is providing a lasting impression in a reserve role with the big league club.
