      The Mariners announced Tuesday outfielder Endy Chavez opted out of his minor-league deal and was released, per MLB.com. Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and pitcher Joe Saunders were also released, but then signed to Triple-A contracts.

      The Mariners have optioned pitcher Roenis Elias to Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced Sunday. An earlier report Sunday said that the team was considering going with a six-man rotation, and it's possible that could still come to pass, with Elias making frequent trips to and from the active roster. For now, it appears Taijuan Walker will serve as the team's fifth starter. The Mariners also reassigned the following eight players to minor-league camp Sunday: catcher John Baker, outfielder Endy Chavez, infielders Shawn O'Malley and Carlos Rivero and pitchers Mark Lowe, Jordan Pries, Kevin Correia and Joe Saunders .

      The Mariners have signed outfielder Endy Chavez to a minor-league deal, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. The 36-year-old has been linked to the club recently, and finally decided to return. He spent the first month of last season in the minors, but joined Seattle in late May. Chavez hit .276/.317/.371 over 232 at-bats. The deal includes an invite to spring training.
