      Padres activate Cory Spangenberg, option Frank Garces

      The Padres activated infielder Cory Spangenberg from the disabled list on Friday, per U-T San Diego. Spangenberg had been out since June 27 with a bone bruise in his left knee. To make room on the roster, the Padres optioned left hander Frank Garces to Triple-A El Paso. Garces had a 4.94 ERA in 34 relief appearances with the Padres.

      Padres second baseman Cory Spangenberg was forced to leave Saturday's game in the bottom of the fourth inning with an apparent leg injury. Spangenberg was taken out hard at second base in the first inning, and was seen favoring one of his legs. He stayed in the game after that, but was lifted for a pinch runner in the fourth after legging out a double. The Padres have classified the injury as a sprained left knee. It is not clear how long Spangenberg will be out for, but his status for Sunday's series-finale is certainly in doubt.
