Indians SP Trevor Bauer turns in quality outing in final 2015 start

Indians starter Trevor Bauer gave up just two hits, three walks and one run over seven innings against the Twins on Thursday. He struck out three and didn't receive a decision.Unfortunately, Bauer was denied a win in his final start of the year despite the solid line. He finishes the season with a 4.55 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 170:79 K:BB in 176 innings. That has to be considered a set of disappointing results for Bauer, who saw his walk rate rise and his home-run rate spike this year. He'll need to work during the offseason on locating his fastball better, as that tends to be the pitch that gets hit out of the park.

Indians move scuffling Trevor Bauer to bullpen

Struggling Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer has been moved to the bullpen, Zack Meisel of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Bauer has been shelled in two of his last three outings, most recently allowing six earned runs on seven hits in a critical oss to Detroit on Sunday. The Indians will move to a five-man rotation for the time being as they continue to remain in the periphery of the playoff chase. The return of Corey Kluber from an injury on Thursday would have given the Indians six starters. Bauer was easily performing worse than any of the others. He failed to pitch more than three innings in three of his last four starts as his ERA soared to 4.71.

Indians starter Danny Salazar has been scratched from his Friday night start against the Angels due to an illness. Trevor Bauer will take the mound in his place. Terry Francona has stated that Salazar has been pushed back to Monday in Toronto. The Indians could ill-afford to lose Salazar for more than one outing. They are on the periphery of the playoff race and fellow right-hander Carlos Carrasco has already been placed on the disabled list with a shoulder ailment. Salazar had been on a tear with seven straight quality starts until a subpar performance Saturday. He is 11-7 with a 3.30 ERA on the season.

Indians starter Trevor Bauer had a forgettable evening on the mound against the Yankees on Thursday. The young right-hander lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one, in the 8-6 loss. Bauer (9-9, 4.35 ERA) was hit early and often in this one, giving up three runs in the first inning, all coming on Brian McCann's three-run home run. Another run scored in the second, with three more coming across in the fourth before he was finally lifted from the game. Bauer has been rather inconsistent this season. In 23 starts, he has nine outings of four earned runs or more, with four of those coming in his past six appearances.
