Struggles on, off field prompt Rangers to cut SP Kevin Matthews
The Rangers have waived starting pitcher and former No. 1 draft pick Kevin Matthews after he was charged with one count of DWI in North Carolina, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has reported. Matthews has struggled mightily on the mound since 2012. He has not only undergone shoulder surgery that limited his playing time, but he has not recorded an ERA lower than his current 6.48 in the last three years. He has walked 11 and yielded six runs in 8 1/3 innings in 2015.
