Jordan Swagerty not dealing with structural issue
Tests have ruled out more structural issues for Cardinals pitcher Jordan Swagerty, who halted his throwing program Monday due to elbow inflammation, MLB.com reports. "It's been a long journey," Swagerty said. "I'm not discouraged yet, because it's nothing serious this time, which is positive. I'd like to come here and be healthy and be able to compete, obviously. But at the end of the day, I know it's not anything serious. There is still some relief for me knowing that I was able to work on things and throw the ball hard and feel good. To come in the next day and feel sore, that's not the worst thing that could happen." It's believed that the inflammation is a byproduct of Swagerty getting back into his throwing routine. Manager Mike Matheny said the team's training staff detected "some weakness" in the elbow, but Swagerty is not scheduled for a second opinion outside the organization.

Swagerty undergoing Tommy John
Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty will undergo season-ending surgery shortly, reports MLB.com. Swagerty, the Cardinals' seventh-best prospect, will undergo a pair of procedures, including Tommy John. "It's disappointing," farm director John Vuch said. "But in the long run it's probably better to do everything now than to break [the two procedures] up and risk losing the better part of two seasons."
