      Giants catcher Andrew Susac undergoes wrist surgery

      Giants catcher Andrew Susac has undergone wrist surgery according to manager Bruce Bochy, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Susac was considered a candidate for surgery, and it appears he's elected to have it. The young catcher is expected to be ready for the start of spring training, so the issue shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the 2016 season.

      The Giants have placed catcher Andrew Susac on the 60-day disabled list due to ligament damage in his wrist. Susac will miss the remainder of the 2015 season. Susac spent a month on the DL earlier this season with a thumb injury. But he as apparently been dealing with the wrist issue since spring training. He will have his wrist immobilized for about 2-3 months before resuming any baseball-related activities.

      The Giants placed catcher Andrew Susac on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced on Sunday. Susac suffered a right thumb sprain while sliding during Saturday's game. He's hitting .241 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 41 games this year. Manager Bruce Bochy said that an MRI showed no ligament damage, per CSN Bay Area, but Susac still needs 10-14 days to recover. To replace him, the team recalled catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Sacramento. Sanchez hit .194 in 18 games in a previous stint with the Giants this year. He was hitting .280 with three home runs and 11 RBI at Sacramento.

      Giants C Andrew Susac triples, scores, leaves with injury Saturday

      Giants catcher Andrew Susac left Saturday's game with a sprained right thumb. Susac had gone 1 for 2 with a triple and a run scored prior to exiting in the bottom of the fourth inning. He sustained the injury when sliding into third base when he hit his triple in the fourth inning. "It was just straight into the bag," Susac said, per CSN Bay Area. "It's pretty tight right now, all the symptoms of a sprain. I stood up (after the triple) and it just felt numb and tight." Susac underwent X-rays which came back negative. Susac will likely be out 7-10 days with the injury. He will have a precautionary MRI on Saturday to make sure there is no serious damage. A tripe to the disabled list seems to be a likely scenario.

      The Giants gave Buster Posey a day off from behind the plate on Saturday. Posey will play first base for the 22nd time this year and second time in the last three games. Regular first baseman Brandon Belt will move to left field for the 10th time. Andrew Susac replaces Posey at catcher. It's his 29th start and fourth in the last seven games.
