      Marlins take 12 players off spring roster

      The Marlins took 12 players off their spring roster Wednesday, per The Miami Herald. Among the cuts were top pitching prospects Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani, who were reassigned to minor-league camp. Jesus Sanchez, Colby Suggs and Avery Romero were also reassigned to minor-league camp, while Michael Brady and Kyle Jensen were optioned to Triple-A New Orleans. Grant Dayton, Angel Sanchez, Jose Urena, Jacob Realmuto and Brent Keys were optioned to Double-A Jacksonville.

      Roster moves continue for Marlins

      The Miami Marlins made their second wave of roster cuts this spring and announced the following moves: pitchers Alex Sanabia and Brad Hand -- who were both in the mix for the fifth spot in the rotation -- were optioned to Triple-A New Orleans. Outfielder Kyle Jensen and pitcher Evan Reed were also sent to New Orleans. The team optioned pitchers Sam Dyson and Edgar Olmos and outfielder Marcell Ozuna to Double-A Jacksonville. Pitcher Jordan Smith and catcher Wilfredo Gimenez were re-assigned to the minor-league camp.

      Jensen a sleeper for Marlins?

      With Marlins first baseman Logan Morrison questionable for the start of the season because of his knee injury, suggests the three top internal candidates to replace Morrison are Greg Dobbs, Joe Mahoney and Kyle Jensen. All three players are on the 40-man roster and depth charts list Mahoney as the backup to Morrison.
