Tigers OF Tyler Collins hits two doubles Sunday

Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins smacked two doubles and finished 3 for 4 in Sunday's loss to Minnesota. He scored the team's only run. It was his first extra-base hit and multi-hit game since September 16. He'd been mired in a 1 for 19 slump since that game, so we're not convinced he'll bring you any late-season value.

Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins in starting lineup Saturday

Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins will make his fourth straight start in left field Saturday against the Royals. With the Tigers all but eliminated from playoff contention, manager Brad Ausmus appears inclined to take a longer look at Collins down the stretch, which comes at the expense of Rajai Davis. Although Davis is expected to see at-bats versus left-handers, Collins figures to receive the starts in left for the majority of what remains of the season.

Tigers' Tyler Collins batting sixth in season debut

Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins is serving as the designated hitter on Tuesday and batting sixth against the Brewers in his season debut. Collins was called up to take the roster spot of designated hitter Victor Martinez earlier in the day, and he'll fill Martinez's role as DH in his first game of the season. He went 6 for 24 with one home run last season and has hit .248/.338/.301 with nine RBI and eight stolen bases in 113 at-bats with Triple-A Toledo. "We needed a left-handed bat with [catcher Alex Avila] down as well as Victor," manager Brad Ausmus said to MLB.com. "He can DH. He's played part time at this level before, last year. He's got a little bit of experience there. He understands that sometimes he's going to sit for a few days and then play for a few days. That's why we chose Tyler."
