      Tigers minor-leaguer Luke Putkonen goes on disabled list

      The Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate, placed pitcher Luke Putkonen on the disabled list, according to the Toledo Blade. Putkonen has been dealing with an elbow injury and there is no timetable for his return. Replacing Putkonen on the Mud Hens' roster will be right-handed pitcher Ryan Perry , who was promoted from the Double-A Erie SeaWolves.

      The Tigers released pitcher Luke Putkonen on Saturday. Putkonen missed most of last season with an elbow injury, and the team outrighed him to Triple-A in January, removing him from the 40-man roster. He had a non-roster invitation to Major League camp, but he had a 7.36 ERA in four games.

      Tigers sign reliever Gorzelanny to one-year deal, DFA Putkonen

      The Tigers announced Tuesday they agreed to terms with pitcher Tom Gorzelanny on a one-year deal. To clear a roster spot, pitcher Luke Putkonen was designated for assignment. The 32-year-old Gorzelanny spent the 2014 season pitching out of the Brewers' bullpen. However, he missed the first few months of the season recovering from shoulder surgery. He posted a 0.86 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 23 relief appearances. He struck out 23 batters in 21 innings. The 28-year-old Putkonen made just two appearances for Detroit in 2014, posting a 27.00 ERA. He is 1-5 with a 4.66 ERA in 44 career relief appearances.

      Tigers pitcher Luke Putkonen threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday and experienced no pain, reports. It was Putkonen's first bullpen session since undergoing elbow surgery in mid-June. He could go out on a rehab assignment as some point in August before the end of the minor-league season if he doesn't encounter any setbacks. "With only a month left in the minor-league season, even if he can get ready, there's really no place for him to do a rehab assignment, so I don't know what will happen," manager Brad Ausmus said. "I don't know if he will be ready."
