Padres' Ryan Buchter: Contract selected by Padres

Buchter had his contract selected by the Padres on Thursday. The Padres granted Marcos Mateo his release in a corresponding move on Thursday, clearing a spot for Buchter on the 40-man roster. Buchter spent the 2015 season in the Dodgers and Cubs organizations, working a 1.78 ERA with a 10.7 K/9 rate over 43 total appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City and Triple-A Iowa. The Padres' severe lack of left-handed pitchers in the bullpen could give Buchter an inside track at making the opening day roster.

Dodgers send pitching prospect Julio Urias to minor-league camp

Dodgers top pitching prospect Julio Urias has been assigned to minor-league camp as a part of the team's first wave of cuts this spring, reports MLB.com. Urias, along with Chris Anderson, Ryan Buchter and Josh Ravin were all sent down. Although Urias is considered the top prospect for Los Angeles, he will begin his season in the minors. "Our standard answer right now is that we won't see him (in 2015). He's 18," manager Don Mattingly said last month. "Nobody wants to retard his development at all. He's moving forward. He had (87 2/3) innings last year. He'll get more this year. There's a plan to continue to build his innings and get him ready for the big leagues."
