Rockies lose another shortstop to injury Sunday

Rockies infielder Cristhian Adames was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers in the second inning due to a neck bruise and a right index finger bruise, the Associated Press reports. Adames suffered the pair of contusions when he collided with the Dodgers' Joc Pederson while covering third base. The Rockies had been using Adames as their regular shortstop the last few days with Jose Reyes (Achilles) recovering from an injury of his own. If both players are unavailable for Tuesday's series opener in Arizona, Rafael Ynoa or Daniel Descalso would likely get the start at short.

Rockies' Adames, Ynoa with slim chance of making Opening Day team

Rockies prospects Cristhian Adames and Rafael Ynoa know their odds aren't great to make the Opening Day roster, but are taking advantage of the extra playing time this spring, reports Adames, who primarily plays shortstop, has received work at every position in the infield this year after hitting .353 in the Dominican Winter League. "I worked to hit the ball the other way, every time, and I played all three positions -- third, second, short," said Adames. "I worked in the Dominican on my running, and it's helped me with my defense." Ynoa is just glad to have the opportunity to play in the majors at some point this year. "Most of my teammates got called up, and I was frustrated -- it's tough when you see you are part of a winning team, playing every day and putting your effort in and you're still stuck in the same spot," Ynoa said. "I went to the Fall League and every year I was an everyday player. But that's life. Nothing is easy.
