Cubs' Justin Grimm: Avoids arbitration, inks deal with Cubs

Grimm and the Cubs avoided arbitration Friday, agreeing to a one-year, $1.3 million deal, the Chicago Tribune reports. Grimm had a mostly successful 2015 campaign, though he faltered down the stretch, allowing 12 runs and 12 walks over his last 15 appearances. Even so, that followed an impressive run of 15 consecutive scoreless appearances, and Grimm concluded the year with a K/9 rate of 12.1, by far a career-best. Grimm figures to return to the Chicago bullpen in a similar, late-inning role in 2016.

Cubs place Justin Grimm on DL with forearm inflammation

The Cubs have placed pitcher Justin Grimm on the 15-day disabled list on Friday due to right forearm inflammation, per the team's official website. The move will be retroactive to April 2. The team recalled right-hander Brian Schlitter from Triple-A Iowa to join the bullpen. "I never put a finish line on a DL stint, but I hear it's not too serious," Maddon said, per the Chicago Tribune. "It's one of those things he thought he could get through but eventually got to the point (of being placed on the DL). It's been off and on the latter part of spring training. But it's one of those things that the pitcher thinks 'I'll through through it and it will be OK' but just didn't want to seem to resolve itself. So resting is the right thing."
