    Rangers to lean on Kela, Dyson when Tolleson needs a rest

    Rangers manager Jeff Bannister said Wednesday he will use Keone Kela and Sam Dyson in save situations when closer Shawn Tolleson needs a break, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We can use a different bridge guy now," Banister said. "We can back up those four [Kela, Dyson, Jake Diekman and Sam Freeman]. And give Tolleson a day down, if needed."

    Marlins trade RP Sam Dyson to Rangers for Tomas Telis, Cody Ege

    The Rangers have acquired right-hander Sam Dyson from the Marlins. In exchange, the Marlins will receive catcher Tomas Telis and left-hander Cody Ege. Dyson has made 44 relief appearances this year with the Marlins. he is 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA in 44 innings. Telis, who will report straight to the Marlins' big-league club, was 2 for 11 in his recent six-game stint with the Rangers. Ege, a 2013 draft pick, was 6-2 with a 1.00 ERA in 35 relief appearances between Class A and Double-A this year. He will head to the Marlins' Double-A affiliate.

    Marlins' Phelps, Dyson combine for six runs allowed against Rays

    Marlins pitchers David Phelps and Sam Dyson both struggled during their appearances in the top of the seventh inning in Friday's 10-9 win over the Rays. Phelps was the first to relieve starter Dan Haren, who gave up only one run in six innings. Phelps only recorded one out and was attributed with four earned runs. Before he was taken out, Phelps walked Logan Forsythe with the bases loaded, which scored Asdrubal Cabrera. Dyson then came into the game and struck out Rene Rivera. However, he then walked his next two batters. Six total runs scored for the Rays in the seventh. Dyson, attributed with two earned runs, was relieved by A.J. Ramos.

    Marlins RP Aaron Crow likely headed for Tommy John surgery

    Marlins reliever Aaron Crow delivered some bad news Wednesday, as he told reporters he expects to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, per The Miami Herald. Although, Crow will seek a second opinion, he is not expecting the outlook to change. "The last time I pitched was Saturday. I felt fine then, but came in the next day and it was really sore and it was painful to throw," Crow said. "[Surgery is] definitely not what I wanted to hear." With Crow expected to land on the disabled list, Sam Dyson will likely take his spot in the bullpen. Crow, who is in his first year with the Marlins following a November trade with the Royals, posted a 2.25 ERA in seven spring appearances. He had nine strikeouts in eight innings. "It sucks," Crow said. "It kind of makes it worse coming over here and before I even got a chance to help the team out I get hurt and never have an opportunity this year."
