      Matt Moore, four others recalled by Rays on Tuesday

      The Rays have recalled left-hander Matt Moore and four others from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday. Moore, who missed the first three months of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, made six starts for the Rays earlier this season. Moore struggled when he came off of the DL in early July. In the six starts, he allowed a total of 26 earned runs in 26 2/3 innings, leading to an 8.78 ERA. He has fared much better in five starts with Durham, going 2-1 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 innings. He also posted a 43:8 K:BB ratio, which includes a 16-strikeout outing two starts ago. In addition to Moore, the Rays also summoned Mikie Mahtook , C.J. Riefenhauser , Richie Shaffer and Kirby Yates from Triple-A.

      Rays promote RP Enny Romero, send down DH Richie Shaffer

      The Rays have demoted designated hitter Richie Shaffer to Triple-A Durham and recalled left-handed reliever Enny Romero, per the Tampa Tribune. Shaffer dropped off after a fast start upon his arrival in the big leagues and finishes his first stint with five hits in 19 at-bats. Romero has been getting clobbered lately at Durham with eight runs and 13 hits allowed over his last 10 2/3 innings to raise his ERA to 5.09. He does have 50 strikeouts in 53 innings on the year.

      Rays' Richie Shaffer goes 3 for 3 with homer

      Rays DH Richie Shaffer went 3 for 3 in Sunday's win over the Mets, hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh. Shaffer has four hits in his first 10 MLB at bats, with two of them going for home runs. He scored three times on Sunday.

      Rays' Richie Shaffer gets first hit, home run in win Tuesday

      Rays rookie Richie Shaffer recorded his first career hit--a home run--in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the White Sox. Shaffer's seventh-inning solo blast was the last of four home runs the Rays would hit on Tuesday. This was just Shaffer's second game since being promoted to the big leagues, and he displayed immediate power. And that power may be for real. The youngster hit 16 home runs in 55 games with Triple-A before his callup.

      Rays officially promote Richie Shaffer, demote Matt Moore

      The Rays officially demoted starting pitcher Matt Moore to Triple-A Durham on Monday. To take his spot on the roster, corner-infield prospect Richie Shaffer was promoted from Durham. Moore, who missed the start of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery, went 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA in six starts. Shaffer, who was a 2012 first-round pick (25th), posted a .263/.361/.539/.900 slash line between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He also had 21 doubles, 23 home runs and 59 RBI in 94 games.

      Rays to call up infielder Richie Shaffer on Monday

      The Rays are expected to call up first baseman/third baseman Richie Shaffer from Triple-A Durham on Monday, per the Tampa Bay Times. Shaffer was removed from Durham's game on Sunday, in anticipation of the move. Shaffer was hitting .265 with 16 home runs at Durham. This is his first trip to the Major Leagues.

      Rays promote former 1st-round pick Richie Shaffer to Triple-A

      The Rays have promoted former first-round pick Richie Shaffer to Triple-A Durham, the team announced on Saturday. Shaffer was selected in the first round in 2012 by Tampa Bay and is hitting .262 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 39 games for Double-A Montgomery this season.
