    Marlins place Jarrod Saltalamacchia on paternity leave

    The Marlins placed catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia on paternity leave, the team announced on Friday. To replace him on the roster, Miami called up catcher Jhonatan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans. Solano was hitting .185 with a home run and three RBI in the minors this season. He returns to the Majors for the first time since 2013, with Washington. He has a .217 average in 36 games in the bigs. To make room for Solano on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated LHP Grant Dayton for assignment. Dayton has been with the team since the start of his pro career in 2010. He has a 4.05 ERA in six and two thirds innings this year.

    Marlins take 12 players off spring roster

    The Marlins took 12 players off their spring roster Wednesday, per The Miami Herald. Among the cuts were top pitching prospects Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani, who were reassigned to minor-league camp. Jesus Sanchez, Colby Suggs and Avery Romero were also reassigned to minor-league camp, while Michael Brady and Kyle Jensen were optioned to Triple-A New Orleans. Grant Dayton, Angel Sanchez, Jose Urena, Jacob Realmuto and Brent Keys were optioned to Double-A Jacksonville.

    Jose Urena, Grant Dayton added to 40-man roster

    The Marlins have purchased the contracts of pitchers Jose Urena from Class A Jupiter and Grant Dayton from Double-A Jacksonville on Friday. Urena went 10-6 with a 3.73 ERA in 27 appearances (26 starts) last season. Dayton owned a 2.37 ERA over 38 innings of work in the minors.
