      Marlins' Derek Dietrich hits game-tying home run on Friday

      Marlins outfielder Derek Dietrich hit a key home run on Friday, as he tied the game 3-3 with a ninth-inning solo shot off Padres closer Craig Kimbrel. The Marlins would end up losing the game 8-3 in 11 innings however. The home run was Dietrich's sixth of the year in just 88 at-bats. It was also the third in his last nine games.

      Marlins infielder Derek Dietrich provided the lone run the team would score in the 3-1 loss to the Padres on Saturday. Dietrich launched a solo home run in the seventh inning to end Ian Kennedy's bid for a shutout. The home run was Dietrich's fifth of the year and his only hit of the game. Dietrich has been getting irregular playing time with the Marlins. He has been mentioned in some trade rumors recently, as teams could be looking at him as a possible starting second baseman or third baseman in the stretch run.

      Marlins rest Christian Yelich, Derek Dietrich on Wednesday

      Marlins left fielder Christian Yelich and third baseman Derek Dietrich were held out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals. Ichiro Suzuki started in left field for Yelich and Donovan Solano started at third base for Dietrich. Dietrich was out of the lineup for the second time in nine games since becoming the regular third baseman with Martin Prado on the disabled list. Yelich sat for the first time since June 3. Dietrich is batting .320 with an .800 slugging percentage, 1.214 OPS, three doubles, three home runs, five RBI, five runs, two walks and five strikeouts in his last eight games.

      Marlins 3B Derek Dietrich slugs two home runs in win on Saturday

      Marlins third baseman Derek Dietrich had a nice night at the plate on Saturday. Dietrich went 2 for 2 with a pair of home runs in the 5-0 victory over the Reds. Dietrich hit a solo shot in the third inning off starter Anthony DeSclafani. He later added a two-run shot in the seventh inning. "Any time you can put runs up on the board for your starting pitcher early, I think it just helps him settle in -- everybody, your defense, everybody," Dietrich said, per Dietrich now has three home runs since making his season debut on June 12. He is 6 for 19 at the plate this season. This was Dietrich's first multi-homer game of his career.

      The Marlins recalled infielder Derek Dietrich from Triple-A New Orleans on Friday. Dietrich posted a .262/.359/.461/.819 slash line in 55 games for New Orleans. He also had two triples, 13 doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI, 25 runs, 15 walks, 45 strikeouts and two stolen bases. Dietrich has played at first base, second base, third base, left field and DH this season at Triple-A.

      Marlins option Dietrich to Triple-A to work on improving defense

      Marlins infielder Derek Dietrich was among the players sent to the minors Wednesday. Manager Mike Redmond said Dietrich was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans because he needs to work on consistency at a few infield spots, per Dietrich will play at first, second and third base at Triple-A. "I thought Dietrich had a nice spring," Redmond said. "He just needs to go down there and play and get more at-bats. He will go down there and play multiple positions, which is great. We all know what he is able to do with the bat."

      With the addition of Dee Gordon this offseason, Marlins infielder Derek Dietrich is facing long odds for a roster spot on the bench when Miami breaks out of camp, per the Palm Beach Post. Dietrich hit .228/.326/.386 with five home runs, 17 RBI and one stolen base in 158 at-bats with the Marlins last season. "I'm just trying to put good at bats together and do whatever is necessary to help this team," Dietrich said. "Every day is a competition. I look at it like that whether I'm playing every day or I'm competing for a bench spot. I don't want anything handed to me. I try to earn everything. I have a real focused, concentrated attitude this year."
