Blue Jays' Roberto Osuna: Jays to determine closer during spring training

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said that the team doesn't expect to choose a closer between Osuna and Drew Storen until midway through spring training, if not later, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. The acquisition of Storen in a trade with the Nationals in early January has added a layer of confusion for fantasy owners trying to determine the Jays' plans for the ninth inning to begin 2016. While Storen's experience may ultimately lead him to the job, Osuna proved capable of holding down the job and pitching at a high level upon arrival last season. Both players have the potential to finish as a top-10 closer if they can secure the job all season.

Blue Jays' Roberto Osuna: Role uncertain

Osuna's role heading into 2016 is uncertain with the Blue Jays acquiring Drew Storen from the Nationals on Friday. General manager Ross Atkins was non-committal when asked about the closer role Saturday, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports. Atkins did not rule a competition for the closer role between Osuna and Storen, but the move to acquire Storen suggests the team is thinking hard about stretching Osuna back out to start. It's logical that the team would want to maximize the 20-year-old's innings after a great rookie campaign, but at the same time, Osuna's immediate value to Toronto in a high-leverage bullpen role is significant.

Blue Jays' Roberto Osuna picks up 20th save Monday

Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna picked up his 20th save by getting two outs in the ninth inning of a 4-3 victory over the Orioles on Monday. He did not surrender a hit and recorded a strikeout. After a rocky stretch earlier in the month where he surrendered four earned runs over two appearances, Osuna has now tallied four straight scoreless outings, converting three consecutive save opportunities in the process. The hard-throwing reliever is 20-for-22 in save chances overall, and will shoulder the responsibility of postseason closer for the Blue Jays in his rookie season.

Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna survives for 19th save on Saturday

Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna picked up his 19th save of the season Saturday, recording two outs but giving up two hits and allowing two inherited runners to score. The young closer has unraveled a little in September, and he now has a 5.23 ERA on the month in 10 1/3 innings, but Osuna has still converted three straight saves over his last four appearances. He'll need to stay sharp as the Jays try to clinch the AL East and head into the postseason.

Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna fires perfect inning for 18th save

Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna tossed a clean ninth inning to pick up his 18th save in the Jays' 5-3 win over the Rays on Friday night. He struck out one. He had been scored upon in four of his eight September appearances, so a strong performance is a welcome result. Just 20 years old, he has maintained excellent composure in the closer's role for a pennant contending team, so Toronto will hope to ride his confidence into the playoffs.
