Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb gets another day off Friday

Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb held out of the lineup on Tuesday

Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres. This is a bit surprising to see, considering the Diamondbacks are facing a right-hander in Tyson Ross and Lamb went 2-for-4 with a double in Monday's loss. However, it seems manager Chip Hale simply wants to get Brandon Drury involved with a start at third base -- his last start came back on Sept. 5 -- as there has been no word of an injury to Lamb.

Jake Lamb held out of D-Backs lineup again due to lefty starter

The Diamondbacks continued the trend of sitting third baseman Jake Lamb against left-handers, as Aaron Hill was in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Angels with Hector Santiago on the mound. Lamb hasn't started three times in the last seven games because a left-hander has been on the hill. He is batting .250 (1 for 4) against lefties this season. Since coming off the disabled list June 6, Lamb is batting .214 (6 for 28) with one RBI, two doubles, one run, two walks, seven strikeouts and one stolen base in nine games (seven starts).

Diamondbacks activate 3B Jake Lamb from the disabled list

The Diamondbacks announced that they have activated third baseman Jake Lamb from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. Lamb has been on the DL since mid-April with a foot injury. He's not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, but should be available off the bench. He appeared in 10 games for Arizona before landing on the disabled list, hitting safely in all but two of those contests. To clear room on the roster, the Diamondbacks designated catcher/first baseman Jordan Pacheco for assignment

Trumbo trade alleviates PT crunch for D-Backs' Tomas, Lamb

With catcher Tuffy Gosewisch out for the season due to a torn ACL, the Diamondbacks acquisition of catcher Welington Castillo on Wednesday in a six-player trade with the Mariners is a welcomed addition to the roster. However, the deal helps alleviate a potential playing time problem for the Diamondbacks, as trading Mark Trumbo will allow Yasmany Tomas to move to the outfield and clear up regular at-bats for the return of third baseman Jake Lamb, who is on the disabled list. "Not that [Jarrod Saltalamacchia is] not the answer, but we really wanted to address that area. Lamb's going to be coming off the disabled list pretty soon, so it's just going to create more of a logjam for us," Arizona general manager Dave Stewart said, per ESPN.com. "With Yasmany swinging the bat as well as he is, it created a situation where we really needed to open up some space for him."
