  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Sent to Triple-A

Almonte cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Almonte was designated for assignment earlier in the week but will remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The 25-year-old struggled in both the majors and minors in 2018, posting an ERA over 10.00 while issuing 18 walks over 27.1 total innings.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Booted off 40-man

Almonte was designated for assignment by the Angels on Sunday. Almonte has been removed from the 40-man roster to make room for the addition of Cody Allen. Almonte appeared in eight games out of the bullpen for the Angels a season ago, struggling to a 10.29 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with seven punchouts over seven frames.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Returns to majors

Almonte was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Almonte had one brief stint with the Angels this season, allowing two runs over an inning of work. The 25-year-old struggled for Salt Lake this season, posting an ugly 9.70 ERA and 2.34 WHIP across 21.1 innings.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Banished to minors

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Almonte appeared in one game during his latest stint in the big leagues, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one across one frame. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he's posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 5.1 innings in 2018.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Called up from minors

Almonte was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports. Almonte has only appeared in 11 major-league games over the course of his career, with nine coming in 2015 with the Royals. Over 5.1 innings with Salt Lake, he's posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Look for him to serve as added depth out of the Angels' bullpen while with the team.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Returns to action for Triple-A club

Almonte (shoulder) was activated from the 7-day disabled list last week and has made two appearances out of the bullpen for Triple-A Salt Lake, giving up one run over 1.1 innings. Almonte, whom the Angels acquired from the Royals in early April, had been sidelined all season while battling a sore shoulder. After a successful rehab outing June 18 with one of the Angels' rookie-level affiliates, Almonte returned to the Triple-A bullpen and should see regular work in high-leverage spots for Salt Lake. Since Almonte possesses a spot on the 40-man roster, he could be one of the top candidates for a promotion to the big club if the Angels should need an extra reliever down the road.

  • Angels' Miguel Almonte: Traded to Angels

Almonte (shoulder) was dealt to the Angels on Wednesday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Almonte was recently designated for assignment by the Royals. In a corresponding move, the Angels removed Juan Graterol from the 40-man roster. Almonte has only appeared in 11 big-league games over the course of his career, but performed well between the Double- and Triple-A levels in 2017. Due to a recent bout of shoulder soreness, he will likely begin the year on the DL at Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Designated for assignment

Almonte (shoulder) was designated for assignment Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. Almonte was removed from the 40-man roster after the Royals claimed Abraham Almonte off of waivers from the Indians. He reached the majors for the first time back in 2015 but has pitched just 10.2 innings at the big-league level. He is also dealing with shoulder soreness, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports, and is expected to begin the year on the disabled list.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Optioned to minors

The Royals optioned Almonte to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, Maria Torres of The Kansas City Star reports. An impressive showing in the Cactus League (one run allowed over nine innings, 8:1 K:BB) wasn't enough for Almonte to secure a spot in the Royals' Opening Day bullpen. The 24-year-old remains one of the higher-upside arms in the organization's farm system and looks close to contributing in relief for the big club, but the Royals may not be ready yet to pull the plug on developing Almonte as a starter at Triple-A.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Fans three in three spring innings

Almonte (shoulder) has yet to allow a run in three innings this spring. The pitching prospect missed the tail-end of last season with a rotator cuff strain, but it seems like the injury is in the rear-view mirror at this point. The early results are promising, as Almonte has three strikeouts in his brief spring action so far. He did allow one hit and hit a batter, but his control has been a problem in recent seasons (5.0 BB/9 in 114.2 career Triple-A innings). There's a good chance that he'll start the season back in Omaha, but the 24-year-old will likely be back in the majors at some point in 2018, although he may be destined to end up in the bullpen.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Posts strong minor-league marks in 2017

Almonte (shoulder) ended 2017 minor-league season with a 1.72 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 16 games (47 innings) with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. The prospect appeared in two games for the Royals before his season ended prematurely due to a shoulder injury. During his time at Double-A, Almonte managed a career-high 10.9 K/9 while displaying much better control (1.9 BB/9) than in previous years. The sample size was small, though, and the 24-year-old's numbers regressed upon reaching Triple-A, suggesting Almonte might need more polishing than once thought.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Likely done for season

Almonte (shoulder) was recalled from Triple-A and placed on the 60-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain. While Almonte will be eligible to return in late September, a return seems unlikely given the nature of the injury. One of the top pitching prospects in the Royals' system, Almonte started this season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas and worked his way to the big leagues, pitching an inning of work out of the bullpen on two different occasions for the Royals.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Optioned to Triple-A

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Monday. Brought aboard by the Royals for the weekend series with the Rangers while Neftali Feliz was on the paternity list, Almonte will report back to the minors with Feliz being reinstated on the active roster. Almonte, who didn't make an appearance out of the bullpen for the Royals over the weekend, could end up settling into a starting role with Omaha.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Recalled by Royals

Almonte was recalled by the Royals on Friday to replace Neftali Feliz, who was placed on the paternity list. Feliz will only miss three days at the most, so Almonte will likely only be with the team through the weekend. The 24-year-old reliever allowed three earned runs in two appearances with the Royals earlier this season, but owns a minuscule 1.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 40.2 innings in the minors this year.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Optioned to minors

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports. Almonte's demotion clears the way for Danny Duffy (oblique) to return from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Mariners. During his latest stint with the Royals, Almonte made a lone appearance during one game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Twins, working around a hit and a walk to toss a scoreless inning.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Called up Saturday

Almonte was recalled by the Royals on Saturday. Almonte made his lone relief appearance in a big-league stint earlier this season, allowing three earned runs on four hits in a loss to the Indians, but will get a chance to redeem himself as part of a taxed Royals bullpen. The right-handed reliever hasn't allowed a run over nine innings with Triple-A Omaha this season while also demonstrating his versatility to serve as both a starter and middle reliever. Almonte takes the roster spot of the injured Matt Strahm (knee), though his stay will likely be on a temporary basis.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Optioned to minors

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. Almonte had been slated to replace the injured Nathan Karns (forearm) in the rotation last week, but the Royals were able to skip his turn after Thursday's game against the Yankees was postponed due to rain. Though Karns won't be back from the disabled list in time for his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Tigers, the Royals won't turn to Almonte to fill the void after he came on in relief Sunday. The Royals called up reliever Kevin McCarthy in a corresponding move to replace Almonte on the pitching staff, but it's still unclear who will enter the rotation Tuesday.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: First 2017 start postponed

Almonte's scheduled start against the Yankees on Thursday has been postponed due to rain. Almonte had been tabbed for his first start of 2017 in place of Nate Karns, who recently landed on the DL with a forearm injury. It's unclear what the Royals plan to do with their rotation for the time being, though it's certainly a possibility that Almonte's spot start will be skipped and the team turns to Ian Kennedy on Friday, as planned. If that turns out to be the case, Almonte wouldn't be in line to start again until Tuesday.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Confirmed for Thursday's start

Almonte was named the starter for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. With Nathan Karns (forearm) landing on the disabled list, Almonte will step up to take his turn in the rotation. The 24-year-old has been lights-out with Double-A Northwest Arkansas this season, sporting a 1.86 ERA in six starts and a relief appearance, so he'll look to carry that success into the big leagues. Karns isn't expected to miss too much time, so this very well could be Almonte's lone start in the majors in the near future.

  • Royals' Miguel Almonte: Candidate to start Thursday

Almonte could pick up a spot start Thursday against the Yankees if Nathan Karns (forearm) is unable to pitch, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. Karns' status is still unknown, but it's certainly a good sign that the 24-year-old is in the mind of manager Ned Yost when potential replacements are being considered. Almonte has yet to make an appearance in the big leagues this season, but he possesses a 1.86 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in six starts and a relief appearance for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
