Athletics' Jesse Hahn: Will enter camp completely healthy

A's manager Bob Melvin said recently that Hahn (forearm) will enter spring training completely healthy, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. The elbow and forearm issues that Hahn dealt with over the second half of last year inevitably led to speculation of a second Tommy John surgery, but it seems the club's cautious approach paid off. That doesn't mean the injury concerns will go away anytime soon, though, as Hahn's health history and the arm stress created by his signature curveball are both red flags. If indeed healthy, Hahn should compete for a rotation spot in spring training.

A's pitcher Jesse Hahn throws pain-free on Tuesday

Athletics pitcher Jesse Hahn (forearm) played catch from 60 feet Tuesday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports. There was some fear that Hahn, who has already had one Tommy John surgery, was headed for another such procedure, so the fact that he is throwing pain-free is reassuring. Look for him to continue his rehab from his forearm strain through the winter and to compete for a spot in the rotation during spring training.

Athletics could be without SP Jesse Hahn for extended period

The Athletics may be without right-hander Jesse Hahn for a while. Hahn was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday because of a forearm strain. Now, general manager Billy Beane has said the team could be facing a "somewhat extended stay" on the DL for Hahn. "We're going to be conservative with Jesse," Beane said, per the Bay Area News Group. "And the tough thing with is starters is once they're shut down, it take a while to build back up. So it'll be longer rather than shorter." Chris Bassitt is already expected to start for Hahn on July 25--which is the next time the A's will need a fifth starter. But it appears Hahn's absence could go beyond that one start.

A's SP Jesse Hahn expected to go on DL due to forearm strain

Athletics starting pitcher Jesse Hahn will be shut down for two weeks after an MRI revealed he has a forearm strain, according to SFGate.com. Chris Bassitt will be recalled from the minors to start in Hahn's absence Saturday. "He's been feeling it a little bit," A's manager Bob Melvin said, per MLB.com. "At this time in the season, starters that have logged their innings have their aches and pains, and that's what this is right now. But it wasn't getting better to the fashion where we were comfortable with him making another start, so we'll try to be proactive here and give him some time off."
