      Brandon Cumpton gets knocked around Wednesday

      Pirates starter Brandon Cumpton lasted less than four innings Wednesday against the Cardinals. Cumpton was very hittable, allowing four runs on nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out two during the outing. Things could have been worse, as Cumpton loaded the bases in the fourth inning. After getting one out, he was removed with the bases juiced. Ernesto Frieri managed to work out of the jam without surrendering any additional runs, most of which would have been charged to Cumpton. The loss dropped Cumpton to 3-3 on the year. It's unclear when Cumpton will make his next start due to the approaching All-Star break.
