Rockies' Ryan McMahon keeping numbers close to career slash line

Rockies third base prospect Ryan McMahon had a big game for Class A Modesto on Wednesday, homering twice and driving in three runs in a 12-1 win. He finished with three hits and three runs. It was the third two-homer game of his career, per MiLB.com. "I feel good," he said. "We were swinging it really good as a team and we put up a bunch of runs, so it was a good day. "It was the same approach both times, to use the big part of the field, and stay on the ball. With the second one, it was probably the best I've hit the ball all year, so I knew [it was gone]. But as long as I can get a hit and help the team put up runs, I'm trying to do that." McMahon, who is considered a top-100 prospect by Baseball America (No. 95) and BaseballProspectus.com (No. 100), has homered 10 times in 85 games this season. He has a .294/.378/.494/.872 slash line. He also has three triples, 28 doubles, 47 RBI, 53 runs, six stolen bases, 36 walks and 100 strikeouts. "I'm just sticking with my approach and trying not to do too much," he said. The 2013 second-round pick has a career .294/.374/.517/.890 slash line in 270 minor-league games.

Ryan McMahon thriving early in South Atlantic League

Rockies third base prospect Ryan McMahon is one of the South Atlantic League's top performers through the first few weeks of the season. The 2013 second-round pick is batting .317 with a .425 on-base percentage, .767 slugging percentage and 1.191 OPS in 18 games for Class A Asheville. He also has three doubles, eight home runs, 15 RBI, 16 runs, 12 walks and 19 strikeouts. He's learning from his mistakes and making the most of many of his opportunities."
