Garcia has worked 8 2/3 innings so far this season with a 1-1 record and nine strikeouts. Manager Ryne Sandberg continues to be impressed by the young pitcher, reports "He's a power pitcher," Sandberg said about Garcia. "The biggest thing with Garcia right now is the command of the baseball. He has two power pitches, and when he's ahead of the hitters, he can be very effective."

      Phillies pitchers Andy Oliver and Luis Garcia continue to make a case for spots in the bullpen this season. Oliver gave up one run on 1 2/3 innings pitched Sunday, but also added three more strikeouts. "Oliver's been impressive," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He wasn't quite getting ahead [in the count] like he had the last two outings but he still showed his good stuff." Garcia pitched a perfect seventh inning, keeping his scoreless streak throughout spring training alive. "Garcia continues to be pretty solid," Sandberg said. "Throwing strikes with his couple of pitches. Those guys for sure were bright spots, along with Slowey."

      Phillies announce September roster moves

      The Phillies announced their September callups on Monday. Before announcing the moves, Philadelphia transferred pitcher Cliff Lee to the 60-day DL to create room on the 40-man roster. The team recalled infielder Cesar Hernandez, catcher Cameron Rupp and right-handed pitchers Luis Garcia and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Additionally, the team purchased the contracts of infielder Maikel Franco and outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr.. Right-hander Mike Adams was also activated off the disabled list.
