      Rangers recall Nick Martinez; activate Robinson Chirinos from DL

      The Rangers recalled pitcher Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock and activated catcher Robinson Chirinos from the 15-day disabled list on Monday, the team announced. Chirinos has been out since July because of a strained left shoulder. Martinez was sent down to Triple-A after posting a 4.09 ERA in 121 innings this season.

      Rangers SP Nick Martinez shelled by Twins

      Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez had a rough start Wednesday against the Twins, lasting just 3 2/3 innings while giving up seven earned runs as Texas was blown out 11-1. While only four of the runs were earned, Martinez allowed a season-high three home runs to put himself in a very early hole. When it was all over, Martinez had given up a career-high 11 hits. After starting 4-0, Martinez is 3-7 over his last 12 starts. During that timeframe, his ERA has risen from 1.96 to 4.09.

      Perhaps the slump that has plagued Rangers starter Nick Martinez since spring turned into summer is over. Martinez gave up just one run on one hit in five innings Wednesday against Houston to raise his record to 7-6. He walked three and struck out one. The lone tally was on a Jed Lowrie double in the fourth inning, after Martinez had retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced. It was arguably his finest outing since June 9. Martinez had yielded 24 runs in his previous 28 innings covering five starts.

      Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez improved to 6-6 with a win, Friday, over San Francisco. Martinez snapped a six game winless streak, getting his first victory since June 9.
