Palacios was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Palacios began spring training with the potential to serve in a large-side platoon role in right field. However, the addition of Michael Taylor crowded the outfield in Pittsburgh, making Palacios more expendable. He'll likely be the top option for a promotion should an injury occur in the Pirates' outfield.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Joshua Palacios: Back in action
Palacios (illness) is starting as Pittsburgh's designated hitter in Saturday's spring training game versus Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Palacios will get his first game action in over a week after being sidelined due to an illness. The 28-year-old outfielder is 0-for-4 with an RBI this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Joshua Palacios: Ready for spring debut
Palacios (lower leg) will start in right field and bat leadoff in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Palacios will be making his spring debut after he suffered a lower leg injury early in camp that prompted the Pirates to slow play his entry into the Grapefruit League lineup. After slashing .239/.279/.413 with 10 home runs and five stolen bases across 264 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in 2023, Palacios may need a strong showing in spring to solidify his spot on the Opening Day roster. The lefty-hitting Palacios still has a minor-league option remaining, so the Pirates could choose to send him to Triple-A Indianapolis if he's unable to win a strong-side platoon role with the big club.... Pirates' Josh Palacios: Nursing leg injury
Palacios has been dealing with a lower-leg injury but is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut in the next few days, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Palacios did some running Friday and has also hit on the field, so he appears close to putting the minor injury behind him. The 28-year-old is slated to be a reserve outfielder for the Pirates in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Sitting out Saturday
Palacios isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday against Miami. Palacios will sit out Saturday after picking up three hits over the Pirates' last two games. Jack Suwinski will shift to right field with Palacios out, and Ji Hwan Bae will start in center field while Nick Gonzales mans second base.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Out against lefty
Palacios is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia. The Phillies are starting left-hander Ranger Suarez, so Palacios will begin this one on the bench. Henry Davis will patrol right field for the Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Out of Sunday's lineup
Palacios is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Cincinnati, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Palacios went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run during Saturday's contest but will return to the bench for the series finale. Miguel Andujar will start in right field and bat cleanup.... See More ... Pirates' Josh Palacios: Not in lineup Friday
Palacios remains out of the lineup Friday at Cincinnati. Palacios hit a three-run homer off the bench in the Pirates' win over the Cubs on Thursday, but he'll ride the pine again to begin Friday's tilt as left-hander Andrew Abbott toes the slab for the Reds.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Sitting Thursday
Palacios isn't in Pittsburgh's lineup Thursday against the Cubs, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. After going 2-for-6 with a homer and three RBI during Wednesday's win over Chicago, Palacios will get a breather for Thursday's series finale. Miguel Andujar will take over in right field and bat fifth while Palacios rests.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Caps big rally
Palacios went 2-for-6 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs. Palacios' blast put a bow on the Pirates' seven-run fourth inning. The outfielder has been solid in September, going 15-for-49 (.306) with three homers and nine RBI over 17 contests. That's lifted his season slash line to .230/.270/.404 with nine long balls, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and five stolen bases over 83 contests overall. Palacios is in the mix for playing time in the corner outfield spots and at designated hitter, primarily against right-handed pitchers.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Sitting against southpaw
Palacios is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals. Along with fellow left-handed hitters Jack Suwinski and Alfonso Rivas, the lefty-hitting Palacios will retreat to the bench while southpaw Patrick Corbin takes the hill for the Nationals. Connor Joe will replace Palacios in right field and bat third.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Settling into large-side platoon
Palacios went 2-for-4 with a triple Sunday against Atlanta. Palacios has been a primary beneficiary of Andrew McCutchen's (Achilles) absence, starting all four games against right-handed pitchers since McCutchen went down. Palacios has hit well in the limited sample since, collecting five hits across 16 at-bats with one RBI. His larger sample this season suggests that success may be short-lived, but he looks to be in line for regular at-bats across the final few weeks of the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Sits in fourth straight
Palacios is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The lefty-hitting Palacios will be on the bench for the fourth straight game while the Pirates have opposed left-handed pitchers three times during that stretch. The righty-hitting Miguel Andujar will spell Palacios in right field for the second game in a row, but Palacios should continue serving as the Pirates' primary option at the position versus right-handers until Henry Davis (hand) returns from the injured list.... Pirates' Josh Palacios: Smacks sixth homer
Palacios went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Cubs. He's spent much of his time in the majors as a bench bat, but he's getting regular run with Henry Davis (hand) sidelined. Palacios has started five of the team's last six games and popped two homers, though he has only three hits across 23 at-bats in that span. While he has just a .207 average across 176 plate appearances this season, Palacios has hit fifth or sixth in the order of late and could be a passable source of power and RBI so long as Davis is out.... Pirates' Josh Palacios: Returns from illness
Palacios (illness) is starting in right field and batting fifth Saturday against Minnesota, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Palacios had to leave Tuesday's contest after coming down with an illness, but after making a pinch-hit appearance Friday, he will return to the starting lineup Saturday. The 28-year-old is just 1-for-21 with a home run across his last six games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Goes back to bench Wednesday
Palacios is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. Though he'll hit the bench with southpaw Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta, the lefty-hitting Palacios may have carved out at least a part-time role against right-handed pitching. He picked up starts in four of the Pirates' last five matchups with righties, leading off on each of those occasions while going 2-for-17 with a pair of solo home runs.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Walks off Philly
Palacios went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Phillies. Palacios capped a big day at the plate with a two-run homer off Andrew Vasquez in the bottom of the 10th inning, powering the Pirates to a 6-4 win. It was Palacios' second home run of the season, and he's now 4-for-6 in two games since he was recalled from Triple-A on Friday. Overall, the 28-year-old outfielder is slashing .252/.284/.396 with 15 RBI, eight runs scored and a steal across 117 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Back in Pittsburgh
The Pirates recalled Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. Palacios was optioned to Triple-A on July 17 and will now return to the majors to provide additional outfield depth. The 27-year-old is slashing just .229/.264/.343 across 111 plate appearances in the majors this season, but he's caught fire since being demoted with a 1.307 OPS and four homers in seven games with Indianapolis.... Pirates' Josh Palacios: In leadoff spot Tuesday
Palacios is starting in left field and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Cubs. This will be Palacios' first-ever appearance at the top of a major-league starting lineup. Ke'Bryan Hayes is batting second as Pirates manager Derek Shelton shakes things up with Bryan Reynolds out Tuesday due to lower back tightness.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Josh Palacios: Takes seat Sunday
Palacios is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Palacios started four of the past five games and will receive a day off after going 4-for-12 with a walk, three RBI and a run during that span. Connor Joe will take over in right field for Sunday's series finale.... See More ... See Less
