Tigers DH Victor Martinez (quad) loses fifth straight game

An injury-plagued, disappointing season for Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez will end with him losing the last five games to a quad injury. It remains to be seen if the aging Martinez can bounce back in 2016 or if his knees won't allow him to regain his past hitting prowess.

Tigers 1B Victor Martinez (quad) not in Saturday's lineup

Tigers first baseman Victor Martinez (quad) is not in the lineup Saturday. The 36-year-old hasn't been able to play since Wednesday as he has struggled to shake off a sore left quad. J.D. Martinez will get the start at DH, with Steven Moya filling in at right field and with just one game remaining in the season, it's fair to question if we've seen the last of Martinez in 2015.

Tigers DH Victor Martinez exits Monday with apparent leg injury

Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez left Monday night's game for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, MLive's James Schmehl reports. Martinez was reportedly pointing at his left leg, which is concerning, given that he missed significant time this season in the aftermath of a February surgery on his left knee. With the Tigers going nowhere, they may simply choose to shut Martinez down if he's not at 100 percent. Martinez was 2 for 3 with a run scored before leaving the game.

Tigers first baseman Victor Martinez is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox. Martinez got the team's only hit in the first game Monday, but he'll take a seat for Game 2. Miguel Cabrera will get the start at first base, while Ian Kinsler will serve as the team's DH.

Tigers 1B Victor Martinez collects three hits Tuesday

Tigers first baseman Victor Martinez went 3 for 4 with two RBI Tuesday against the Twins. He now has 55 RBI this season. He has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 9-for-27 (.333), but those two RBI were his first since August 20 (20 games). At some point, we're almost certain it'll be revealed that his knee never really did heal and that it'll take this offseason for him to get his legs back.

Tigers DH Victor Martinez gets day off for illness

Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez is not in the lineup for a Labor Day matinee, as manager Brad Ausmus said the slugger was not feeling well, per MLB.com. It might have been time for Martinez to rest anyway, as he's been in a slump for most of the season. In September, Martinez is just 4-for-22 with one extra-base hit, continuing his season-long hitting woes. Still, Martinez has been a fixture in the Tigers lineup, as he has only missed one game (Aug. 24) since June 19.

Tigers DH Victor Martinez could be benched or dropped in order

Struggling Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez could soon either lose playing time or fall a spot or two in the batting order. He recently fell from the cleanup spot to fifth, but that has not kick-started him at the plate. He has pretty much been in a season-long slump. Martinez is batting .130 (6-for-46) with no extra-base hits and no RBI over the last 12 games. "Trust me, all has been considered," Ausmus told MLive.com. "[Benching Martinez or lowering him in the order] could be a possibility right now. He hit the ball hard three times (Thursday) night. We'll see how he feels (Friday)." Martinez lost time this year to a knee issue that is still making it tough for him to unleash power against right-handed pitching. "I think he's getting a little frustrated," Ausmus added. "A combination of, he hasn't hit very well, but ... he's run into some bad luck. I think from the time of the knee injury, I don't know if he was ever the same, but at times you see flashes. He's just been scuffling lately. That's part of baseball. Sometimes you scuffle."
