      Rangers' Doug Bernier: Signs with Rangers

      Bernier agreed to a minor league deal with the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Bernier spent last season in the Twins' organization, slashing .256/.340/.306 in 95 games at the Triple-A level. The 35-year-old has limited big league experience in his career and figures to serve just as infield depth for the Rangers.

      Twins activate Tim Stauffer, option Doug Bernier to Triple-A

      The Twins announced that right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer has been reinstated from the disabled list and will be available for Friday's game in Chicago against the White Sox. Stauffer missed 19 games with a right intercostal strain. He allowed three earned runs over five innings of work while rehabbing for Triple-A Rochester. In a corresponding move, Minnesota optioned infielder Doug Bernier to Triple-A Rochester. Bernier appeared in four games, hitting .200 (1 for 5) during his stint with the big-league club.

      Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup after his flight back from Dallas was delayed. Plouffe left the team to attend his grandfather's funeral. Doug Bernier will replace him in the starting lineup, batting seventh.

      Trevor Plouffe flight delay may force Twins lineup change

      Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe may not be at the stadium in time for Sunday's game, per the Pioneer Press. Originally listed in the starting lineup, Plouffe's flight from Dallas was delayed. He's scheduled to arrive at 12:40 PM. There will be a driver waiting to take him to the ballpark, but with a 1:10 start time, it will be tough to make it in time for first pitch. Doug Bernier will get the start if Plouffe isn't there in time. Plouffe was in Texas tending to a family emergency.

      The Twins placed infielder Eduardo Nunez on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, per Nunez has not been on the field since April 29. He started the season with a .409 batting average (9 for 22) with two RBI in eight games. In a corresponding move, the club recalled Doug Bernier from Triple-A.

      The Twins have sent pitcher Yohan Pino and infielder Doug Bernier outright to Triple-A Rochester, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Bernier elected free agency, and Pino is expected to become a free agent as well. Pino made his major-league debut in 2014 and finished the season with a 5.07 ERA and 50:14 K:BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings over 11 starts. Bernier was just 2 for 7 with the Twins in 2014.
