Nationals' Werth feeling good despite poor results since DL activation

Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth is not happy with his results at the plate since returning from the disabled list in late July. Although the left wrist injury that forced him to miss more than two months is healed, he is batting just .151 (8 for 53) with a .264 slugging percentage in 15 games since his activation. "I wouldn't say it's frustrating but I'd say it's been a little challenging because I feel like my timing has been good," Werth said, per The Washington Post. "And I feel like all my work and drills and all the things that I do have also been good. My pitch recognition has been good. I've had good at-bats. Sometimes when you don't feel good or you're out of sync, you don't really expect results. It's been weird because I feel good. It's just the results." Nationals manager Matt Williams appears to be preaching patience with the veteran outfielder since he missed a lot of games. "It's a work in progress, it's timing, it's all of that," Williams said. "You look up and he has 170-some at-bats for the whole season. It's not like riding a bike. And generally, he takes a little bit longer. He's going to continue to be a big part of our success if we can get him rolling with [Ryan Zimmerman] and Anthony [Rendon] and have some semblance of that lineup back that'll do nothing but help us."
