Rangers' Cole Hamels: Turns in quality start Friday

Hamels was charged with four runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings against the Blue Jays on Friday in Game 2 of the ALDS. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. Both Hamels and Toronto starter Marcus Stroman turned in strong performances, but the bullpens ended up deciding the game, with the Rangers getting two runs off LaTroy Hawkins in the 14th inning. The Rangers are in great position, now up 2-0 and heading to Texas, and Hamels likely won't pitch until the Championship Series unless the Blue Jays win two in a row.

Rangers turning to Yovani Gallardo in first game of ALDS

Rangers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo will start Game 1 of ALDS against the Blue Jays on Thursday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Cole Hamels went nine innings on Sunday, so he wasn't available to make the start, leaving Gallardo next in line for the opportunity. However, considering Gallardo's struggles as of late (he's made it through six innings just once since the start of August), he will probably be on a short leash. Hamels and his 3.65 ERA will likely take the mound in Game 2.

Rangers SP Cole Hamels rolls merrily along with Thursday win

After a slow start to his American League career, Rangers starter Cole Hamels continued to prove himself a worthy pickup with an easy win Thursday. He went six shutout innings while allowing four hits and three walks in a 9-1 victory over Oakland. The Rangers have now won eight straight games in which Hamels has started and it's clear that trade really catapulted this impressive run that will likely win them their division. Over his last six starts, Hamels has a 2.57 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 39 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched. The length is what the Rangers appreciate most though, as he's gone at least six innings in every outing with his new team.

This is a nice break for his fantasy owners, as Hamels will now be able to make three more starts this season instead of two. Yovani Gallardo will switch places with Hamels and take the ball Friday against the Astros.

Rangers' Cole Hamels turns in brilliant outing in win over Mariners

Rangers starter Cole Hamels (4-1) was superb on Saturday, as he struck out 12 Mariners while allowing one run on seven hits in a 10-1 win. Since the acquisition of Hamels, the Rangers are one of the best teams in baseball. This was by far the lefty's strongest performance for the Rangers and it comes as no surprise against a lefty-heavy lineup like the Mariners. In his nine starts with Texas, he has gone at least six innings in each and Hamels is being the work horse that they were expecting. He'll look to continue his fantastic form against the Astros next Friday.
