      Rays to give Mike Fontenot another chance

      Veteran infielder Mike Fontenot was signed by the Rays on Friday after his release from the Nationals, per the Tampa Bay Times. The 33-year-old Fontenot has lost playing time since serving as a reserve with the Cubs and Giants from 2007 to 2011. He spent all of last season with the Rays Triple-A affiliate in Durham.

      Mike Fontenot inks minor-league deal with Nationals

      The Nationals signed infielder Mike Fontenot to a minor-league deal, which includes an invitation to spring training, a source told The Washington Post. Fontenot spent the 2013 season playing for Triple-A Durham, batting .264 with four home runs, 32 doubles and 42 RBI in 120 games. Fontenot has played for the Cubs, Giants and Phillies in his major-league career. He has a .265 average, .332 on-base percentage, .401 slugging percentage and .734 OPS in 582 games.
