Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin not starting ALCS opener

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is not in the lineup Friday for Game 1 of the ALCS against the Royals. Dioner Navarro got the call behind home plate in the ALDS with Marco Estrada on the mound, and it appears manager John Gibbons will go with that same battery Friday. Martin figures to be back behind the plate going forward in this series.

Blue Jays C Russell Martin out of Game 3 lineup

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is out of the lineup for Game 3 against the Rangers on Sunday. Martin will take a rest as Dioner Navarro gets the call behind the dish to catch Marco Estrada. It seems likely that Martin would be behind the plate should his team force a Game 4.

Blue Jays C Russell Martin hits two-run blast in win

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin was 3 for 5 with a two-run home run in Toronto's victory over Tampa Bay on Friday night. Martin has provided some pop - he now has 23 long ones and 77 RBI - but his batting average (.241) has slumped in the second half. The Blue Jays have given him several days off over the past couple of weeks as they attempt to freshen him up heading into the playoffs, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him out of the lineup either Saturday or Sunday.

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is not in the lineup Monday against the Orioles. Martin was given the day off Sunday as well, but there aren't any indications of any issues at this point. Dioner Navarro will get another start behind the plate, batting sixth in his place.

Blue Jays C Russell Martin belts career-best 22nd home run

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin went 1 for 4 Saturday with a two-run shot, setting a new career high with 22 home runs on the season. He's been a little overlooked in the Jays homer-happy lineup, but Martin has put together one of the best seasons of his career in his first campaign back home in Canada. He'll try to pad his stats further over the final week as the club tries to clinch the AL East.

Blue Jays C Russell Martin hits three-run homer in win

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin went 1 for 3 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs against the Yankees on Wednesday. It's been a cool second half overall for Martin -- he's hitting just .219 since the All-Star break, but when he does get hits, they seem to mostly go for extra bases. Of his 11 hits so far in September, four were homers and three were doubles.

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin totals four RBI Wednesday

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin went 2 for 4 with a double, his 20th homer, four RBI and two runs against the Braves on Wednesday. While the veteran catcher's batting average has perhaps predictably dropped to its usual unimpressive level (rather than last year's surprising .290), he's on the verge of tying his career best in homers thanks to a recent surge that's seen him hit three in the last five days. He's also driven in 11 runs in that span, offering a big boost to Fantasy owners.

Blue Jays' Russell Martin homers twice, drives in four in big win

Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin broke out of a deep offensive slump with a big night at the plate against the Yankees on Friday. Martin went 3 for 5 with four RBI, two runs scored and a pair of home runs in the 11-5 victory against his former club. Martin, who had been hitless in four of his previous five starts, blasted a solo shot in the fifth inning and followed that with a two-run shot in the seventh, giving him 19 big flies on the year. The four RBI are a season-high for Martin. This was just his second multi-home run game of the year, with the previous one coming back in April.
