Giants' Angel Pagan: Projects to open in center and atop order

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Pagan (knee) currently projects to open 2016 as the starting center fielder and leadoff hitter, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports. Pagan was able to stay on the field for 133 games last season, the second-highest total of his career, but back and knee issues inhibited his performance. The 34-year-old managed just a .262/.303/.332 batting line in 551 at-bats, numbers well below his career marks at the big-league level (.280/.330/.406), before undergoing knee surgery in October. A lot can change between now and Opening Day, but the Giants have Pagan penciled in for now with the expectation he will step it up in a contract year.
